If you’re a Firefox user, it’s time to get excited because there’s a new version of the browser available to download right now. Firefox 97 removes the colorway themes and adds Windows 11-style scrollbars to the browser (along with the usual set of fixes and tweaks).
The most significant change that made its way to Firefox 97 is the removal of the colorway themes, which were always meant to be available for a limited time. They were added in Firefox 94, so they made it through a few versions before being retired, as was the plan.
Thankfully, if you really like the colorway themes, you can keep your favorite one by having it enabled when the feature expires. You won’t be able to switch between all 18 after that, but at least the theme you’ve enjoyed for the last couple of months will stick around.
Another notable change is that Firefox now supports the new style of scrollbars on Windows 11, which means the browser will blend in better with the rest of Microsoft’s operating system. While the scrollbars didn’t exactly break the browser experience, it’s still nice to have it blend in a little better with the OS.
Mozilla also released some minor tweaks and fixes for its browser in Firefox 97.
Commenting on the retirement of the existing Colorway themes, Mozilla said:
“On February 8, we will expire the 18 colorway themes of Firefox version 94. This signals the end of a special, limited-time feature set. However, you can keep your favorite colorway forever, as long as you’re using it on the expiration date. In other words, if a colorway is “enabled” in the add-ons manager (accessed by typing about:addons into the URL bar), that colorway is yours forever.”

cookieStoreId improvements for extension developers, including the ability to register container-specific content scripts.
Improved WebDriver:NewSession and WebDriver:NewWindow stability.
Marionette:Quit accepts the new parameter safeMode to restart Firefox in Safe Mode.
Several SVGPathSeg APIs have been disabled by default and will be removed in future versions.
SVG d attribute can now be used as a property in CSS.
CSS property color-adjust was renamed to print-color-adjust.
