Nitrux 2.1.1 Released With New ISO for NVIDIA Users

Nitrux is a Debian-based Linux distribution (no systemd), suitable for laptops and desktop computers, with the beautiful NX Desktop and MauiKit apps.
Its main desktop environment is Nomad, a KDE Plasma desktop enhanced with “plasmoids to create a special combination of aesthetics and functionality.
In addition to all this, the project also focuses on creating redistributable applications using the AppImage format.
Now, Uri Herrera of the Nitrux project has announced the release of Nitrux 2.1.1.
What's New in Nitrux 2.1.1
Powered by Linux kernel 5.15.35 XanMod LTS, Nitrux 2.1.1 is here with an easter egg for NVIDIA GPU users, namely a separate ISO image that includes the latest proprietary NVIDIA graphics driver by default.
The NVIDIA graphics driver does not include the Nitrux custom X11 configuration, which means that some hardware may not work as expected and ultimately the user would have to manually add the Nitrux X11 configuration for NVIDIA PRIME to work properly.
Nitrux developers also mentioned the fact that this ISO image for NVIDIA GPUs is not officially supported as they want to keep Nitrux free of any proprietary software.
Another new feature in the Nitrux 2.1.1 release is support for the PackageKit package management system in an attempt to make it easier to manage Debian packages in the distribution.
Developers plan to replace traditional APT and DPKG package managers with PackageKit in future versions of Nitrux.
About this release, Uri Herrera said that:
“The addition of PackageKit is part of a long-term transition to using it instead of using the traditional way in Debian, which is using APT and dpkg. Including the use of Service Packs (as defined by pkgenpack) and the functionality that XFS offers. This means that when opening a terminal window and trying to run APT or dpkg, a message will direct users to use pkcon.”
In addition, Nitrux 2.1.1 comes with the latest and greatest KDE features such as the KDE Plasma 5.24.4 desktop environment, KDE Gear 22.04 and KDE Frameworks 5.93 software suites, as well as several updated third-party applications such as the Mozilla Firefox 99 browser.
The minimal ISO has also been updated and now adds XTERM during boot to the JWM desktop to make it easier for users to launch the installer.
Finally, some bugs that were present in the previous version were also fixed.
