Part 5. I honestly don't know how to feel about this game. It's Fist of the North Star in a Yakuza game. If you like the Yakuza games, especially the Kiwami versions, then this is easily a game for you. It looks nice, it has a solid personality smattered with a decent sense of humor, over the top combat, over the top side quests and mini-games and an somewhat engaging story about finding your lost love. The main game is pretty fun and it steadily introduces new content to keep things fresh. You have a small town to explore and then there is a Mad Max style overworld you can explore in your buggy. The buggy can be upgraded in numerous ways to get you through the wasteland. There are active encounters and collectibles strewn throughout it to help upgrade it more. But this is where my biggest gripe start to rear its ugly head. Bloat. This game seems to make every little thing tedious. Oh you completed a challenge and got an upgrade, but cannot just use the upgrade you need to prepare it first and you need 50 of each part and there is a process to acquire each part. Sometimes it's just having the right amount or driving around and farming it. Other times it's processing the parts through traders and becomes incessantly tedious. The mini games are neat. I nstead of a batting range you use a steel girder and smack invading bandits for big distances and points, you can work as a bouncer in a nightclub and assign horny men to hostesses for some quick cash, you can also race you r buggy for even better buggy parts, you even get to work as a bartender and serve drinks to customers and learn about their woes, there's also an arena where you can battle for prizes. There's a lot of side content in this game. In the arena you can fight each guy combatant 10 times and each time they get harder and their is, I think 12 fighters, so that's 120 fights and that's just one half of the arena, there are also team deathmatch fights. A lot of the side content just feels overly bloated and busy work-ish. The hostess club is okay and is a lot more simplified than it's Yakuza 0 counter part, but even that is tedious. There is a side quest where you have to play off a 100 million debt, the best way to make money is the club, which means you have to do the club thing something like 100 times and that's after finishing the 40 or 50 club missions. The combat is pretty satisfying, but it does get old after about 40 hours and fights seem to drag on. You ve these neat finishers and can level them the more you use them which makes them more powerful so you are encouraged to play the QTe's. Not bad and pretty fun at first, but after you 4,000th encounter and infinite enemies slaughtered later you start to question is it all worth it? You can level Ken and there are multiple skill trees to unlock more thing to power him up. All three add something and they are all very large with multiple branching paths. At the end of the day I decided not to try and do everything and just finish the game it got to be a bit much after a while. I'm also just scratching the surface there is a lot more to do in the game as well. I just had had enough. It's mindless fun and really silly and over the top. Enjoy my blind playthrough.
