If your Ciena router is no longer getting internet, follow these steps to troubleshoot:
1. Check Fiber and Power Connections
Ensure the fiber cable is securely connected to the Optical Network Unit (ONU) and is not damaged.
Confirm the power adapter for the Ciena device is plugged in and the device is powered on.
2. Verify Indicator Lights
Power Light: Should be steady green. If it's off or blinking, check the power supply or try a different outlet.
PON/Link Light: This should be solid or blinking green. If it's red or off, there may be an issue with the fiber connection.
LAN/Internet Light: Should be green when a working device is connected. If off, ensure the Ethernet cable is securely connected.
3. Reboot the Ciena ONU
Unplug the ONU from the power source for about 30 seconds, then plug it back in.
Wait for the device to fully restart and check the status lights again.
4. Reset the ONU (Factory Reset)
If rebooting doesn’t work, perform a factory reset:
Locate the reset button on the Ciena ONU.
Press and hold the button for about 10-30 seconds using a small object like a paperclip.
Release the button when the lights start flashing, indicating a reset.
After the reset, the ONU will return to factory settings, and you'll need to reconfigure it or contact your ISP for assistance.
5. Test Direct Ethernet Connection
Connect a device directly to the ONU using an Ethernet cable to rule out Wi-Fi or router issues. If the direct connection works, the problem might be with your router or Wi-Fi setup.
6. Check with Point Broadband
There may be a service outage or an issue on the provider's side. Contact Point Broadband support to check for any outages or to reset the fiber connection from their end.
