One of the best and easiest ways to fix Fortnite FPS drops is to optimize your Fortnite settings for performance. In most cases you will want each setting set to the lowest option, or one of the lower options. This will prevent FPS drops by reducing the load required to run the game. Having the Fortnite settings set too high can also result in low FPS which isn't ideal when playing.
If the Fortnite FPS drops and stutters isn't fixed then you can also try updating your graphics card drivers. In cases where the issue is new or only occured after an update this can be the solution. For people with an NVIDIA graphics card you can update your drivers using the GeForce Experience application.
Another solution for FPS drops and low FPS issues it to optimize your NVIDIA control panel settings. When the control panel settings set to optimize performance you should get higher FPS in Fortnite.
You can also optimize your computer for higher FPS by turning off hardware acceleration on other applications that may be open. Google Chrome and Discord both have hardware acceleration options. If you play Fortnite with either of these programs open then this may be affecting your FPS.
Additionally, in Windows 10 and Windows 11 you have graphics settings that can be toggled to improve FPS in Valorant. Typically you will want to have the reduce latency and improve performance option enabled, however, in some cases, it is better to have it turned off.
Another way to get higher FPS in Fortnite is to clear out your computer. The easiest way to free up some space is to delete temp files. Temp files aren't needed and will automatically be recreated by applications when needed. The temporary data is often unneeded or outdated and not being used anymore. It's usually a good idea to delete your temporary files every now and again.
Although unlikely, there are some cases where having a game overlay open will cause FPS drops in Fortnite. You can check if this is the issue by disabling your overlays and attempting to play Fortnite again. Some examples of overlays are the Discord game overlay and the NVIDIA GeForce Experience overlay.
Removing any overclocking that you have on your PC can also fix Fortnite stutters. You can quickly check if this is the issue by disabling your overclocking and trying to play again.
