This recording was a mixed bag. While R11 itself is great (with an outstanding arrangement of Debussy's Clair de Lune), this video has some of my worst movement of the series. More so than usual, I was really straining against the different cameras and environments, and I made a number of mistakes. The first Katharine bit was especially sloppy as I forgot to practice it earlier. Despite some reservations, I decided to keep this recording due to how dialogue-heavy it is, especially since another recording attempt probably wouldn’t have looked much better anyway.
If you go up to the top of the lighthouse before talking to Sue, nothing happens (though you can access the Lost and Found puzzle on DS).
Version differences:
- On PS2, the stack of guidebooks at the front desk is gone, but remains there on DS.
- When ringing the bell multiple times to call Edo, Sumio keeps his hand over the bell on PS2, but drops his hand to his side briefly after each ring on DS.
- On PS2, there is no load screen to get into the lighthouse, but there is a load screen on DS; while you can walk into the lighthouse without pressing Confirm on DS, you have to do so when leaving.
- On PS2, you can’t run in the lighthouse, but can on DS.
- After the phone call with Sue, the music stops on both versions. However, if you go down to the lobby, music will start playing again on DS, but not on PS2.
- The sequence with Sue under the bed is slightly different between versions, with some camera angle differences. Video of several takes of the sequence: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KSYSdVsDwrs
I don't quite understand how the Sue bed sequence works, but my theory is that the sequence of camera angles is semi-randomized (but don’t hold me to that). After that sequence, you can't leave the room until you solve the last puzzle and answer the phone. You can't leave the hotel at this point, either, but you can talk to Edo and get a Lost and Found item on DS.
Despite all of the issues I had, R11 ended with a bang, and the next two requests will be a nice change of pace. I'm more than halfway through the game now, and things will definitely keep picking up.
