FoEhints: Winter Event 2018 (Dec 3rd) in Forge of Empires
237Since Monday the Vikings are in the beta server and today, on Friday, InnoGames comes with the next great feature: Winter event 2018 can be tested now and will be published on all worlds around December 6th, running then for 31 days.
This year the winter event asks you to collect stars. You will receive 10 stars for each daily login. As always it is a good idea to log in every day at least once.
You will receive more stars for completing the 71 quests of the winter event quest line. You can complete 40 of these immediately and another 31 will be added one every day.
The questline is introduced by Ekatarina. She says that she is coming from a country far north of your city and she will bring us the most popular winter tales if father frost. This look inspired by northern Russia. There will be another video about that very long quest line soon. I simply need a while to complete all quests myself.
Looking on the milestones of that questline lets you recognize that the main reward of that event is the Winter Spire. One of the loading screens shows all 11 upgrades of it. You heard it correctly. This new event building can be upgraded to level 12.
After completing quest 10 you receive the Winter Spire as a level 1 building. In that version it is a humble residential building with a 4x4 size.
With every upgrade the properties will get better. One of the possibilities to get the necessary upgrade kits is as milestone rewards of the winter event questline.
The higher levels of the Winter Spire not only provide population and coins. Starting with level 2 this event building also produces additional resources of motivated and motivation makes it impossible to plunder this building.
On level 12, the maximum level that everybody will be able to reach by completing the quest line, the Winter Spire will provide 12% city defense bonus for a peaceful Christmas, daily supplies, 15 goods of the buildings age and breathtaking 6 forge points.
You can then use the collected stars in that built-on minigame. It is already well known from previous winter events but comes in a completely fresh design. After the initial shuffle you pick one of the 18 presents and receive a little gift immediately: forge points, fragments of different building types, blueprints, military units and as a daily special unique buildings. Some of them we know already from previous winter events. New winter event buildings will be added this year.

Along with each present you will receive a matchstick to enlight between 1 and 3 candles on that Christmas tree. Once all 20 candles are burning you will receive the Grand Prize shown above the tree.
I recommend to open a present only if the daily special is a good one. From my point of view the Shrine of Knowledge offered at the first day of the event is one of the best daily specials, and the winter event is a great opportunity to get many of these. Not because of that, but to have enough video material early in the event I invest a lot of diamonds on the very first day.
Let us recalculate it quickly: We will receive 310 stars for logging in and another 710 stars for completing all quests. For completing quest 40 we will get another 300 stars. Each time we hit shuffle we receive another 10 stars and 14 stars from some presents which occasionally can be doubled with some luck. This means that without spending diamonds we should collect some 1,500 stars. This allows us to open 150 presents and receiving 150 matchsticks. Each matchstick enlights between 1 and 3 candles. For all 20 candles we need an average of 10 matchsticks. That means that we will be able to complete 15 Christmas trees. The first Grand Prize and afterwards every second Grand prize will be an upgrade kit. We will receive 3 upgrade kits from the quest line plus another 8 upgrade kits from the Grand Prizes. This is exactly calculated in a way that it will be nearly guaranteed to receive enough upgrade kits to bring that Winter Spire to level 12 if you log in every day and complete the quest line. So keep it up. We have good reason to look forward to another great event.
