The FK rig drives the cubes. The cubes drive the output rig. Now add one change: Drivers that can scale inputs based on whatever value you want.
notice the sweep animation? If you scale down x axis movement by an amount determined by the distance of one cube from another, you can create springs and curves within an already existing animation before retargeting it. So you can speed up or slow down various segments, or even smooth stuttering in a similar manner by having a cube follow the other and gauging distance per frame.
It's all simple concepts, just with a rig built to purpose for using them.
