Kaeru no Tame ni Kane wa Naru, or For the Frog the Bell Tolls in English, is a 1992 Game Boy action RPG made by Nintendo and Intelligent Systems exclusively for Japan (and yes, the title is a reference to For Whom the Bell Tolls by Ernest Hemingway). The game is considered to be a predecessor to The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening, since it uses some of the same elements and even shares a composer: Kazumi Totaka, the man who pretty much made the soundtrack of my early childhood (alongside The Beatles, Jack Johnson, and plenty other fine people). I never really knew the game existed until fairly recently, especially since the game can now be played on Japan's Game Boy library in Nintendo Switch Online, so I decided to finally give the game a shot this past week. So far, it's pretty nice! I was surprised to find that the game's main theme was one of many game songs I heard as a kid without knowing where they came from, and it's just as great as I remembered it. Given how slow things have been behind the scenes, I felt it'd be appropriate to do the song justice with a cover made with Furnace. I originally made this cover for the Namco C30 WSG, but I couldn't figure out how to utilize more than 5 of its sound channels, so I felt it'd fit better on MSX using its AY-3-8910 plus the Konami SCC, using the same rules that I followed with my Iron Horse cover last month. It took quite a while for me to move everything over and tweak the vibrato commands and whatnot, but I've managed to do it. You might notice that I once again used one of Galaxian's wavetables for a makeshift bell in this song like I did with my song Way Far Beyond last year, which ended up working out as well as I'd hoped. This whole endeavor turned out quite well despite the tedium, and I hope you all enjoy it. ^w^ \n\nHere are the downloads for this song: https://drive.google.com/drive/folder... \n\nComposed by: Kazumi Totaka \nMSX Arrangement by: Andrew Ambrose \n\n\n\nPatreon Shout-outs: \nAustin Kaiser \nHolly \nEric M Ambrose \nKerokoid \n\nBe sure to share this cover if you enjoyed it, and consider supporting me on Patreon (100% optional):   / andrewambrose
