On the website Sonic Retro, the sonic romhack community where Stealth and Taxman made names for themselves, there was a romhack called Motobug the Badnik where you played through Sonic 1 as a Motobug who could do little hop jumps. The creator of this romhack, Polygon Jim, died in a car accident in 2013.

The Hard Boiled Heavy who is the boss of Lava Reef here rides a Motobug. The motobug is named Jimmy. It does little hop jumps. You do the math.
