Apex Legends will be pushing an update this coming Tuesday which is December 3. This update is jam packed with changes so pay attention. 1st on the list and most importantly, they are raising the level cap from 100 to 500. Now I know many of you are saying wait, what level cap? Yeah, me too. I’ve been level 100 since march which is shortly after the game came out. I forgot that this game even featured level progression. It was completely irrelevant to the hardcore players which is by the way most of the people who still play it and I think Respawn realized this and decided to do something about it. For that, I applaud them. The progression to 500 should be a fairly slow one considering each level after level 57 will take 18,000 xp. Obviously, if you play well or complete challenges the time it takes to earn that xp will go down but for the most part climbing an extra 400 levels should be satisfying and time consuming for all you sweaty Apex Predators.
With new level progression comes more apex packs. Starting with this update you will be able to earn a total of 199 apex packs through that base level progression and xp. That's 154 more packs after level 100. Here's how the packs will be rewarded throughout the levels:
Level 2-20 you will get 1 apex pack every level, Level 22-300 you will get 1 apex pack every 2 levels and level 305-500 you will get an apex pack every 5 levels. Then at 500 you will still earn 600 legend tokens per 18,000 xp. These changes make it so that players that are already at level 100 will have missed out on 14 apex packs that new players starting from scratch will get. Respawn’s solution to this is to just give those players all of the packs they are missing under the new system. So if you are at level 100 right now, you will login to Apex Tuesday Morning and see 14 apex packs waiting for you to open. As MoreConsole would say…”Merry effing Christmas!”
Additionally, they have reduced the total xp it takes to hit level 100 by 5% in order to make the rewards a bit more balanced through the first 100 levels. The max amount of xp it will take to level up will stay at 18,000. Most of you are probably at level 100 already so this doesn’t matter but it was in the Announcement so it makes the video.
Alright, new rewards time. Once the update is live you will earn a new level progression badge every 10 levels starting at level 110. This is cool but not a big deal at all, who cares if the other players know what level I am. The only time they see my badge is if I'm the champion at the start of a new match or when I kill them. I never look at other players badges so whatever. But, the gun charms are dope. We are getting 36 new gun charms that will be available in Apex Packs. They are Epic and Legendary which mean dope and dope-er than common and rare and they will be available for direct purchase in the store on a rotating basis. They will most likely have a couple charms in there at a time so just wait until you see one you absolutely love and jump on it.
The fact that Respawn understands how the level progression system was basically irrelevant for most of the player base says that they are really paying attention. These changes are directly for the hardcore players. They could have released another event or store sale or new legend which don’t get me wrong would have also been cool but they chose to do a little bit of maintenance on a system that effected the loyal Apex OGs the most instead. In addition to that they have increased the odds of you getting your favorite legend’s skins by providing free ways to earn them through play. This is the opposite of a money grab and I think they have nailed it. Giving us ways to spend more time playing the game we love is always a good thing and is very pro-gamer, not pro-profit. I just want to acknowledge Respawn’s commitment to their player base since a lot of times we tend to rip them for the events being to Salesy or money focused.
