Freespace 2: The Scroll of Atankharzim - Arachnophobia
12This is the sixth mission of the GVTA branch of the Scroll of Atankharzim campaign for Freespace 2. We have discovered the nexus of Shivan activity in these systems: A massive Shivan installation, the first of its kind, lies in NGC-6402. The remnants of the Shivan fleet have retreated to this station, and the station itself possesses firepower on the scale of a Sathanas juggernaut, making its defenses nearly impossible to break with a conventional assault. The Imperial Special Forces task force reported the existence of this facility before we lost contact with them, and even managed to destroy one of its primary beam turrets, but that still leaves three more to menace our forces, and the cruiser screen now in place around the station means our bombers cannot get close enough for a strike.
Therefore we are performing an unconventional special operation: Flying stealth fighters and using modified TAG (Target Acquisition and Guidance) missiles, we are to plant homing beacons on the beam cannons to permit bomber wings to lock onto and launch Helios torpedoes from much longer range than normal, allowing the bombers to not enter the station's killzone. Normally bombs flying that far a distance would be relatively simple to shoot down, so our second missile bank is loaded with EMP warheads. We must use these at precise timing to suppress the targeting of the cruisers and sentry platforms near the cannons, to permit the torpedoes to reach their targets unharmed.
