I checked out the video someone recommended at the end there and I think it's great and worth looking at if you watched all the streams/played these games yourself.

and looking at this I guess it makes perfect sense that none of the new aliens from this game are in Blue Shift... those types of aliens didn't show up until after Barney's story was long since over already. looked it up and apparently many of the aliens we encountered late game as well as the final boss were part of a species seemingly separate from the Xen species seen in Half-Life. that's why the portal looked different too... crazy stuff. that ending still sucked though. this was one of those videos I scrubbed through post-stream to see if I was being unreasonable, and my conclusion is that there was some pretty embarrassing salt that I'd of course like to apologize for (I hate how I lash out a bit sometimes, for instance that one guy is staying banned but telling someone to jump off a bridge isn't very cool no matter how much you dislike them) but that the game truly did have a pretty severe dip in quality at a certain point that I felt warranted some indignance. it's also worth noting that I of course play up the annoyance here and there for the stream, sometimes a little too much maybe... please don't worry for my actual sanity.

incidentally I also figured out the "forget about Freeman" we heard was a different version of the message Gordon heard... not only are the audio files totally different save for a both including "forget about Freeman, we are pulling out" in some form, but they take place a bit down the timeline from one another. (CORRECTION OF THE CORRECTION: there are actually a couple different variations of the "forget about Freeman" line, and the one we see being recorded in Opposing Force IS in fact the one that Gordon hears on the radio next to the tactical map in Half-Life. pog)
