G4G News-Blizzard backs off HOTS-screws over the esports players
The cracks of the recent AAA game company bust are beginning to show over at Blizzard now. In what appears to be a fit of horrible PR, Blizzard has canceled the esports side of Heroes of the Storm and announced they are scaling back the dev side of the game. The general HOTS player might not see a day to day issue with the game (although my queues are SUPER long now), esports players are getting hit hard. Blizzcon 2018 is not a very distant memory and the game seemed to be in fine shape that weekend. They announced their first, original character and talked about the future of HOTS. Things seemed pretty bright. Sadly, about a month later, Blizz drops the bomb and it comes from out of nowhere. Many professional players are very affected by this. One player was quoted in an article saying he played for 8-10 hours a day to be good enough to be picked up by a team. When he finally does, he left college to play for a team and now this happens. For a company that actually seemed to do well by college age kids with the Heroes of the Dorm competition, this seems to be a total 180 from how cool they've been.
I enjoy HOTS tons. I play it almost daily and am now a platinum player. I would be sad to see a dip in HOTS content but I likely will keep playing until the game totally dies. I feel terrible for thos affected and I will very much miss my weekends watching pro HOTS on Twitch.
