Ganondorf's Execution - The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess Ep. 38
Link's Journal:
Day 50
The spinner was very helpful in navigating the rest of the prison. It took a while, but eventually I found a path to the very top floor. Inside a large room at the top was the bones of an ancient beast.
Zant appeared and revived the beast. I couldn't find a visible weakness until Midna suggested I hit the spine since it looked weak. I wasn't strong enough to hit it with my sword, but floating at high speeds with the spinner was enough to shatter those bones.
I thought the beast was dead when the sand began to drain, but it wasn't. The head was floating and spat fire at me. I managed to avoid the flames with the spinner. I realized that it was the dark sword embedded in the skull that was causing the beast to continue attacking, so I broke it with the Master Sword. It broke with such ease. This kind of power is exhilarating.
A door opened that led outside. There were stairs leading up to the very roof of the prison. A tall statue was there. I managed to find a switch at the top of the statue with the spinner. Activating it lowered the statue and an altar rose from the ground. Chains started to rise out of the sand and a large rock hung bound before the altar.
Midna was looking at what rested on the altar. All that was there was a frame and one mirror shard. Midna was distraught. She feared the mirror had been destroyed.
Five ghostly old men appeared. They said they were the ancient sages of Hyrule. I thought there were six of them. The sages explained that Zant got his dark powers from a being known as Ganondorf. When I hear that name I feel...angry. I'm not sure why.
Ganondorf used to rule a band of thieves in the desert and tried to take over the land of Hyrule. Luckily, the king's soldiers were able to capture him and sentenced him to death in this very prison.
When the sages tried to execute him, he wouldn't die since he too had a mark of the goddesses...like mine. One of the sages was killed that day. In their desperation, the other sages sent him into the Twilight Realm. They suspect that Zant found him and learned how to use his magic.
Midna was frustrated to learn of this. She believes it's far too late to do anything about it now. However, the sages told her that only the true ruler of the Twili can shatter the Mirror of Twilight. Zant could only break it into fragments.
The sages told us that the other three pieces are in a snowy mountain, a sacred temple in the past, and a city in the heavens. Midna thought it best to leave the fragment we found on the frame. I intend to travel back to Castle Town to tell Auru what we found. Also, I want to see if any of the others in the group have found anything strange.
