While this video was uploading, I was playing some more and managed a score of 2005 in Endless D. Not too shabby if I do say so myself. Now I can pretty regularly hit the 500 needed for 5 stars. So now blasting way past that is the goal, pushing myself as far as I can go. Where before getting just 500 took me so many attempts. This is what I love about challenging games. Improving is the fun.

Never noticed how jittery the game looks when you're watching it. The character is teleporting around so much because I'm moving during the hitstop. But when you're playing you don't even notice it.

I certainly did not expect a video about this tiny game would be this long. But there was just so much to talk about. For a player like me who always tries to improve and optimize in any game I play, these small things add up to something really great. Because of that, this video almost works as a micro breakdown of the kinds of things to look out for and understand when trying to improve at action games. A lot of the broad ideas I discuss here can directly translate to lots of other stuff.

It was nice to do another gameplay breakdown. It's been a while since I dug deep into a game's mechanics that's not a Sonic game. I wasn't sure at first whether to consider this a review or gameplay breakdown. So screw it, it's both.

Forgot to mention, the sweat drops are some great visual feedback to tell you you're slowed down so you don't have to look at the basket at the top. Obvious stuff, but important.

btw, that middle movement stuff is even mentioned in the game's tips. This game knows that's up.

Honestly, I would love a sequel to this that fleshes this gameplay out into more of a full game. I can easily see potential here for more. More enemy types, different plant types you can make a loadout of that can grow power-ups or have effects, a campaign with like worlds with different gimmicks, hazards and enemies, etc. That would be awesome.

If you can't tell from the thumbnail, the creator of this game is a Sonic fan. He's done a few let's plays of Sonic games in the past, and they're great. I recommend checking out his 06 and SA2 playthroughs available on the Matt McMuscles channel. (The Castlevania 64 playthrough is the real good stuff, though) He does occasionally still do some lets' plays on the Flophouse Plays channel, and he's gonna be doing a Frontiers playthrough, which I'm very much looking forward to.
