Garry's Mod - Metroid Prime Devlog - Combat Visor
This devlog showcases the nearly complete combat visor.
A lot of care was put into optimizing each asset of the HUD as to not slow down the HUD rendering loop.
How it works:
Most of the elements on the HUD are actual 3D models from the original game being rendered in separate passes using cam.Start3D. As for the UI, everything is offloaded to a separate render target attached to a render texture. The render texture is then used and rendered onto a 3D curved surface (checkered pattern model seen in the video) which gives the final 3D effect like the original game.
