Garry's Mod - Metroid Prime Devlog - Grapple Beam Concept
Testing out the current concept for the grapple beam. The whole system creates a new move type using StartCommand, SetupMove and Move. It's implementation is rather simple but yields great results. To initiate the swing, a Bezier spline is created with 4 points. Two of these points are positioned on the player's current position in order to determine the initial swing arc into the grapple. Upon reaching maximal swing for the first time, the Bezier repositions itself to create a semi-circle pattern and swing between the min and max arc positions. The t variable of the spline is established using a cosine function to create the swing. The final velocity is calculated using the previous frame position and exit position of the grapple swing.
