In 2016, the musical group that is currently known as Gather Data Pray for Death, comprised of Elliott Tadanier (guitar), Jay Carlson (drums), Samuel Benson (bass), and Shane Allen (keyboard/guitar) met on the porch of their residence and practice space and decided to scrap the launch of what would have been their first EP. The music recorded for this EP had been dubbed "space trash" in reference to the group's expanding sonic palette in concert with Shane Allen's "trashed" style of playing his retuned guitar less like an instrument and more like a short circuiting onboard computer. After intense deliberations, the band jettisoned the EP and it became like one of thousands of pieces of defunct manmade objects trapped in orbit around our planet: lost, forgotten, and traveling at speeds in excess of 30000 km/hr.

Now, in 2020, GDPFD have decided to retrieve, retrofit, and recycle the recordings from this era, and release a new EP fittingly entitled Space Trash.

Space Trash is a collection of songs showing Gather Data at its instrumental guitar rock zenith. The recordings are all taken from various points of 2016; four of the tracks (Rausch, Mint, Pretty Clipping, Annuals) are all from the same session in late January, while Hefty Bestie and Tree are taken from some of the band's earliest moments. Annuals is a remixed improvisation that was much longer, with additional keyboard and kalimba loops. The rest of the songs have been given a new coat of mixing and production paint, with minor additions, such as new melodies and textures, to propel them forward.

Gather Data Pray for Death's new EP Space Trash is not new, but still showcases the genreblending and expansive improvisation the band has become known for.
