GB Boy Colour Review - Fantastic Backlit Game Boy Color Clone by KongFeng
GB Boy Colour review. If you want a Game Boy Color with a backlit screen but don't want to shell out for a Game Boy backlight mod, then the KongFeng GB Boy Colour is a must-buy.
Nintendo didn't release a backlit Game Boy Color so your options for backlight GBC games are fairly limited. You can buy a GBA SP (prices are going up all the time), or you can pay for an expensive mod to be put inside your original hardware. Or you can do what I did, and buy a Kong Feng GB Boy Colour. The GB Boy Colour is such a surprising handheld. I never would have expected a Chinese clone console to exceed the original device.
The Kong Feng GB Boy Colour vs Nintendo Game Boy Color isn't quite so simple, with the KongFeng GB Boy not quite having the build quality that the original Game Boy Color has. The GB Boy Colour backlit screen is slightly rectangular, meaning games appear a tiny bit squashed. I don't think most gamers will notice or care, as the GB Boy Colour is so affordable, it's clearly the best option for backlit Game Boy and Game Boy Color games.
I've got a ton of original Game Boy and GBC games and I don't want to switch to emulation for backlit handheld games; I really like the feel of a Game Boy in my hands. Which is another area the GB Boy Colour does well in - it's actually bigger than the original GBC, despite missing an infra-red port.
The GB Boy Colour comes highly recommended, I can't think of an easier way to play Game Boy Color games on a backlight screen. The battery life is ace and you can pick these up for a song. For the best Game Boy Color backlight mod solution, turn to the Kong Feng GB Boy Colour.
