Gears and Chains: Spin It 2 Game (1-10 lvl)
Hey, remember TIM? The Incredible Machine? Those were a great series of games. Now, while Gears and Chains: Spin it 2 might not be anywhere near to being the next Incredible Machine game, it does have some interesting game-play that is rather reminiscent of that old game.
At first, it seems that Gears and Chains is just another silly little game that doesn't require all that much thought. I mean, how hard could it be? You link up some gears using bike chains, it's not exactly rocket science. Once you get a few levels in though, you start to realize that it's not quite as easy as it seems, and things will take some thinking before you're able to master it.
The graphics are, as can be expected, nothing too fancy. There's really only so much you can do with a bunch of spinning gears, but the game does it well. You've got gears and a background that would look right at home in any steampunk or dieselpunk scenario. Sadly, the game doesn't touch on either, but it's a puzzle game it's forgivable. The gears themselves are rather well drawn (for gears that is) and each looks to be an individual piece crafted with loving care by top gear craftsmen. The game could have been done easily enough with simple two or three color gears and chains, but the game goes the extra mile by really going all out on the designs here.
There aren't really any sounds to speak of, but the choice of music is top notch. It's soothing, relaxing, and will get you thinking. It's upbeat enough to not bore you, but not so fast-paced as to drive you mad when you can't figure a puzzle out, something that'll come quite in handy later on.
All in all, the game has 40 levels. The first few are really easy, seeing as how they're simple tutorial levels. The difficulty level really ramps up quickly though, and by the time you're past the tenth level things get really tricky. You have three skips though, but seeing as how there's a chicken next to the skip icon, the game might be telling you its opinion of you should you so choose to skip a level. Besides, it's way much more fun trying to figure things out for yourself. There's not actual penalty for sitting around trying to solve a level, so might as well keep at it. You will get more points the faster you solve it though, but as anyone who likes puzzle games will tell you, the solving is its own reward.
So go on and get your gear on, check out Gears and Chains: Spin it 2!
