Gears of War 2 | Full Game Walkthrough | No Commentary
49We continue the epic story of the Gears of War franchise and are archiving Gears of War 2. I remember the hype surrounding this game and it was an absolute masterpiece when it came out. It basically was bigger and better in every way compared to the masterpiece that was Gears of War 1 and therefore it can be seen the "Aliens to Alien" with Gears of War.
Where Gears of War 1 felt like a pretty intimate and smaller story, GoW 2 is epic in scale with giant battles involving hundreds of units. I was surprised to see how epic and awesome the battles still were so many years later. It honestly feels more epic and large scale than most action games we get today. I feel that it was a display back in the day to showcase how many units could be on screen or how epic they could portray a battle. We kinda have lost that ambition which I think is a shame.
The story also has a lot of heart with Dom searching for his wife and the heartbreaking conclusion to that story arc. There is a lot of variety in the game with segments never lasting too long and having varied levels and locations that you get to fight the locust.
I think the Gears of War franchise peaked with this installment and though Gears of War 3 was still cool, it never surpassed 2 and none have ever since. I hope that with the release of Gears of War E-Day that they will focus once again on the epic battles involving so many units.
