In today's video we conduct a barrier and ballistic gelatin test on the DDupleks 12 gauge Monolit 32. The Monolit 32 is a steel slug intended for hunting large game. It features a flat nose and aerodynamic design that allows for increased accuracy at long distances.

The Monolit 32 has a unique design that allows it to punch through overgrown areas and even small trees. It accomplishes this all while maintaining its original trajectory. The steel design helps the slug penetrate entire animals while retaining all of its mass. Unlike standard lead slugs, the Monolit 32 retains its shape after striking objects.

Today's test was completed using clear synthetic gelatin (also known as ballistic gelatin) from ClearBallistics.com. We tested the shell out of the Remington 870. We fired the Monolit 32 through our F-1 Chrony chronograph from a distance of ten feet.

The Monolit 32 surprised us all. It left the barrel at an astounding 1591 feet per second. After traveling roughly 100 feet per second faster than advertised, the Monolit 32 punched through a solid inch of wood without any issue. A short eight inches later the slug made contact with our first block of ballistic gelatin and created a gaping temporary cavity.

The Monolit 32 penetrated a total of 20 inches through ballistic gelatin. It slammed into the table and created a sizable hole as it came to rest. The permanent cavity was roughly 0.75 inches in diameter through the first block of gelatin. Pieces of wood debris made it through the entire first block and onto the face of the second.

Over all the Monolit 32 performed above my expectations. It had an impressive muzzle velocity, and worked exactly as advertised. After striking the wood barrier it still managed to maintain its trajectory through the gelatin. It left a respectable three quarters of an inch cavity throughout the block and did not deform like most lead slugs.
