Gematombe is essentially a competitive arcade puzzler in which you compete against opponents with two objectives: to Crush or Clear. The tutorial is the recommended starting point, as it explains the fundamentals of each match. To acquire souls, a ball must be discharged vertically at various colored gems in order to shatter them. This ball will ricochet from gem to gem before returning to the initial launcher and being fired again.

Clearing your area is necessary for victory, but your opponent can send additional rows and other special jewels your way. Consequently, you can do the same and possibly overwhelm them to the point where you can administer a crushing blow. Both paths to grandeur are acceptable. During the tutorial, there are a few omissions, such as the fact that the first contact made by the ball only removes a single gem, but subsequent impacts can break up clusters of gems of the same color.
