Merge & Blade lacks a narrative beyond "there are some monsters, kill them," but this allows us to focus on the presentation of the game. In this regard, the visuals are undeniably retro, with adorable pixel art depictions of the different units you can create and the enemies they must confront. The remainder of the graphics are fairly unremarkable, consisting of a screen where you create units, a screen where you combat enemies, and a map screen where you decide where to go next. It is all functional and plainly explains what is happening, so it receives a passing grade.
