Fans and critics have spoken and Genshin Impact is a hit! But… it’s recently been revealed that the game has a series of keywords and phrases banned from chat due to China’s regulations around media censorship. Of course this may not come as a surprise to those who already know that the game is made by a Chinese company - but since players in the west are restricted from those words as well it’s hard for many to ignore. China has obviously had a tight grip on anything made within the country that might threaten the notion of perfect national unity but this is another story in a long list about how China’s politics and its stance against free speech affects games that we play.
