Imaginary Friend here to talk about the Absolum demo, the new original property from Guard Crush, the studio known for its involvement in the development of Streets of Rage 4, which now applies all that experience to this new project. The game is a fusion of influences, combining classic beat 'em up brawling with tactical RPG elements. All of this blends into frenetic combat with roguelite and hack and slash mechanics, set in a fantasy universe. Although it may seem like an unlikely combination, the demo has already proven that this mix can be very promising and has great potential.
Set in Talamh, the Sun King, Azra, seeks to control magic and enslave the mages, while rebels led by Uchawi (the "Mystic Mother") fight for their freedom. And that's basically all I know about the game's plot so far. The adventure begins when a group of rebels attacks a convoy carrying the Mystic Mother prisoner. Of course, things don't go as planned, and it all turns out to be a trap to lure the rebels to their deaths.
The combat is basically that of a beat 'em up game, so the focus is on melee, with and without weapons. You collect edible items and healing items, which are very rare. So it's very important NOT to take damage, because mismanaging your energy bar will certainly doom your attempt to reach the end.
