64My only real experience with Armored Core was losing miserably to my friend in a mech duel using a couple of linked PlayStations. Years later I played the demo for Armored Core 4 and wasn't terribly impressed. Then I discovered For Answer.
A sequel to Armored Core 4, For Answer features the same, chunky action and absurdly detailed mech building as its predecessor but now with incredible boss battles. The Arms Forts are absolutely enormous and absurdly fun to take down from within. It sounds simple enough, but it really does change the dynamic of the game--and for the better.
What should you expect going into For Answer? Massive bosses, a high learning curve, and a unique soundtrack. It's not a punishing game, like some of From Software's more recent offerings (see: the Souls series), but getting used to the controls is definitely one of the game's biggest challenges.
As I mentioned, the soundtrack really does stand out. So much so that a group of remixers got together to make a tribute album. The video is set to the final song on the album, Goodbye, Thinker by Jillian Aversa and Mattias Häggström Gerdt (ocremix.org/remix/OCR02162).
