Top o' the Mornin' to Ya!

TLDR: Break free from the performance trap that plagues successful Christian men. Discover the liberating truth that God doesn't want your sacrifices or perfect performance - He simply wants your heart and relationship. Learn to shift from legalistic "doing" to authentic "being" in your walk with Christ.

What?

Do you ever get that feeling that you're just not doing something right? That there's something you're supposed to do, that God wants something from you? I get that all the time. I get that feeling inside that God just wants something. And then I remember, and I realize - God doesn't want anything from me. He only wants me.

I remember recently I shared one of my prayers: "God, what am I supposed to do right now?" Instead of be and be present and be the best man that I can be to obey and follow his rules, to live out the great commission and serve and love on others, and be the only Bible some people will ever read by my actions - while at the same time being okay with messing it up and missing the bar and not doing it right, recognizing that he just wants us to adore him and worship him.

So many times I get into that rut of legalizing it all again, even though I know it. I'm like "What am I supposed to do? What do I need to do now? What's next?" In Bible study this morning, we were reading James 1 about seeing trials and challenges as joy, as happiness, as building of endurance and building of ourselves as imitators of Christ, imitators of God. We are created in His image. We are created to be like him. We are spiritual beings having a physical experience.

There's nothing he wants from us. He wants us to choose to love him. He doesn't want our sacrifices. I'm thinking of the verse in scripture where he says "I don't want your sacrifices. I just want you. I don't want you to do something. I just want you."

Why?

I share this because so many Kingdom Family Leaders get trapped in performance mode with God. We're successful men who are used to achieving, delivering results, and being measured by our output. We unconsciously bring that same mindset into our relationship with God - constantly asking "What do I need to do? What's next? How do I perform better for Him?"

This performance trap creates anxiety, burnout, and spiritual frustration because we're trying to earn something that's already been freely given. When we focus on what God wants FROM us instead of recognizing that He simply wants US, we miss the entire point of relationship. We turn faith into another task list instead of experiencing the freedom of being loved unconditionally.

Lesson

The fundamental shift from performance to presence changes everything about your relationship with God and your effectiveness as a Kingdom Family Leader. God created you in His image - not to be His employee, but to be His child. He gives you wisdom, intelligence, strength, and knowledge not because you've earned them, but because He loves you.

The Scripture reminds us that God desires mercy, not sacrifice - relationship, not ritual. When you understand that trials and challenges are opportunities for joy and endurance building rather than tests you might fail, you approach leadership from a place of security rather than striving.

This doesn't mean becoming passive or abandoning responsibility. Instead, it means operating from "being" rather than "doing." When you're secure in God's love for you, your actions flow from relationship rather than obligation. You become the Bible others read through your authentic character, not your perfect performance.

Apply

For the next week, every time you catch yourself asking "What should I do for God?" or feeling that familiar pressure to perform spiritually, stop and reframe the question. Instead ask "How can I simply be present with God right now?" Spend five minutes in prayer not asking for anything or reporting your spiritual activities, but simply telling God "I choose to love you" and sitting in His presence.

Write down three areas where you've been trying to earn God's approval through performance. Next to each one, write "God doesn't want my sacrifice here - He just wants me." Notice how this simple shift affects your stress level, your decision-making, and your relationships with your family throughout the week.

You be blessed!
