بداية اللعبة جائت بعد مرور عدة سنوات، حيث توفت زوجته وكبر كريتوس في السن، في بداية اللعبة يظهر كريتوس وهو يقطع أحد الأشجار لحرق جثمان زوجته كما أوصت لجمع رماد زوجته ورميه من أعلى قمة في ميدجارد، بعد ذلك يتجه كريتوس برفقة إبنه أتريوس لتعليمه الصيد، وللتأكد من أنه جاهز لرحلتهم إلى أعلى قمم ميدجارد.

بعدما تأكد كريتوس من أن أتريوس ليس جاهز لمثل هذه الرحلة، أخذه وعادوا إلى البيت ليحاول تجهيزه لهذه الرحلة، وفجأة سمعوا شخص غريب يضرب الباب بقوة ويبدو أنه يعرف كريتوس مسبقًا، حيث قال له:

“ليس هناك فائدة من الإختباء، أنا اعرفك، وأعرف ما تكون.”

After that, Atreus hides and Kratos comes out to this stranger, it turns out that this stranger wants something from Kratos, but he tells him that he does not have the thing he wants, then a bloody fight erupts between the stranger and Kratos, after a fight that lasted for a while, finally ends with Kratos defeating the stranger and killing him, to come home and say:

"Who was he ? He knew me.”
