Golden Axe Remake/Remaster - PS2 Gameplay - English Patch - Sega Classic Collection - Sega Ages 2500
100Here we have gameplay footage of Golden Axe Remake for the PS2 (Ax Battler). This version of GAR is from the rare Sega Classics Collection that was released in Europe in limited numbers.
This consisted of a bunch of games bundled together (Outrun, Fantasy Zone and others) rather than the Japanese single release (Sega Ages) only versions of the titles. It was also hardly advertised anywhere so most don't even know this came out.
The game was released under the Sega-Ages range and was a remake of the original arcade/mega drive game. However as you can clearly see its almost like Sega had a budget of perhaps $100 to make this game and even then seem to have tried to push the developers to work miracles.
The game has very badly put together mechanics, a clunky hit detection system, is extremely unfair to the player if they make a single mistake, has badly put together cut scenes and has changed the gnomes for rats???
Golden Axe Remake was a Japanese exclusive PS2 title much like all the other Sega-Ages releases such as Virtua-On and Virtua Fighter 2. Thankfully this was later repackaged under the Sega Classics Collection release with a bunch of other titles.....however weather this is worth actually playing or not considering how terrible it is.....that's another matter entirely.
The collection didn't sell very well and as a result isn't worth much today by collectors (IE not Rule of Rose prices) so if you are curious about this forgotten remake that Sega want to memory hole then you can find it relatively cheaply on places like Ebay or Amazon for less than around 30 bucks from sellers.
