Ok, this is funny: the western release of Ar tonelico: Melody of Elemia included the Japanese voice track but for some reason FMVs were available only in English (and as always with a terrible dub, check out 18:35 in this video https://youtu.be/wwObwd9BuK8?list=PLMHR2xnx8VCou5vQmMwXNNWBcz3aL1mGV ), so someone decided to fix that hardsubbing the Japanese videos with... a pink outlined font? Well, better than nothing I guess. Regarding the official localization, the team of fantranslators that worked on the patch for the sequel commented the efforts of the US publisher stating "The grammar of the localisation [of Ar Tonelico] was at best average and at worst subpar, with poor structure and seeming lack of serious editing, making parts of the game (notably the in-game encyclopedia, which expounded on the concepts that background the series) difficult to understand", so be aware of what you get.

Ar tonelico: Melody of Elemia is a PlayStation 2 console role-playing game produced by Banpresto and Gust. There were other media releases based on the game, including the comic Ar tonelico -arpeggio-, the OVA Ar tonelico, and several drama CDs.

The setting for the game is an extremely tall tower named Ar tonelico, located in the region of Sol Ciel, and the plot is mainly about relationships between humans and an artificial race called Reyvateil.

At E3 2006, Nippon Ichi Software America (NIS America) announced that it would pick up Ar tonelico, with an expected release date on October 31, 2006. However, that release was delayed until February 6 2007 to provide more time for localization.

The European version was released by 505 Games on May 22, 2007. However, it was released in very limited quantities only in France, Italy and Spain and as such European copies of the game are rare and the very existence of the PAL-version remained widely unnoticed.
