GoPro Display Mod For The Hero 8 Black & Hero 9 Black - Why Are There Two Version
Just a simple video questioning GoPro as to why there are two different designs for the Display Mod for the Hero 8 Black and the Hero 9 Black.
One picture, the one from the GoPro website that's been around for ages, has the Display Mod connecting to the Media Mod and the Hero 8 Black by just a HDMI connection.
The second picture, the more recent one from the GoPro advert on the Amazon website, clearly shows that the Display Mod is connecting to the Media Mod and Hero 8 Black via a cable that terminates with both HDMI and USB C. Or at least, it's both these ports that the connection covers in the picture.
My money is on the second picture being the right one.
I don't mention it in the video but I suspect that the extra connection via USB C is so that an external USB C power source can be connected to the Display Mod via its USB C socket. This connection may well be for sharing of power to the Display Mod which then passes it to the battery in the Hero 8 Black via the USB C of the Media Mod. Thereby conveniently charging up and topping up the batteries of both the Display Mod and Hero 8 Black at the same time.
If that suggestion is actually the case then I think that's a good thing.
However, this socket and cable arrangement may be there for other reasons.
