So, in a nutshell :)
You've just bought the GoPro Hero9 Black to create your ultimate vlogging setup. You've already got the GoPro Pro 3.5mm Mic Adapter or you've bought one with your Hero9 black or you were thinking about buying one because you don't need the GoPro Hero9 Black Media Mod and the Mic Adapter is fine for you. Well, bad luck, it does not work.
Now, you may just simply think that the Hero9 Black is simply incompatible with the Pro 3.5mm Mic Adapter, which would be a reasonable assumption because it doesn't work. Well, you'd be wrong.
When you first buy the Hero9 Black its firmware/software is indeed compatible with the Pro 3.5mm Mic Adapter and does indeed work, as my YouTube best buddy, Mr. Ian Craig has proven. Here's the link to Ian's video showing the setup working https://youtu.be/0dYP7EqgsG0
Now, if like me, you didn't try out your brand spanking new GoPro Hero9 Black at all in any way, let alone with the Pro 3.5mm Mic Adapter. Because, and again just like me, you expected to update its firmware/software straight away, as the Hero9 and GoPro app were asking you to do. You would never have known that before the update, the Hero9 black was compatible with the Pro Mic Adapter.
After the update, your Hero9 is no longer compatible with the Pro Mic Adapter.
Is this a mistake by GoPro? Or is it a way for GoPro to force you to spend more money and have to buy the Media Mod for the Hero9 Black?
Don't forget, right now if you want to vlog with your GoPro Hero9 Black or indeed use an external microphone with your Hero9 Black for any reason. You have to do this with the Media Mod. What's even worse is that right now it's basically impossible to buy a Media Mod for the Hero9, so you're not going to be vlogging with an external mic on your Hero9 any time soon.
