GoPro Hero 6 Black Dialogue With The Aputure A.lav - Maybe The Best Budget YouTube Vlogging Lavalier

In this video I’m testing the A.lav lapel clip-on microphone by Aputure with the GoPro Hero 6 Black.
The A.lav is quite possibly one of the best all round budget Lavalier microphones available. At around £25 it’s one of the best value for money mics you can buy. It comes with its own external power supply, although it can be powered by a camera’s mic input as long as it provides plugin or electret power. It comes with TRS and TRRS cables, which allow it to connect to traditional 3.5mm mic inputs and inputs for smartphones and other smart devices such as tablets and pads, also computers. The capsule is an omni-directional electret condenser. It also comes with a good quality case, wind muff, cable tidy and USB power cable adapter for charging the power supply.
The impedance and sensitivity of the A.lav are very well suited to the GoPro’s input. There’s also no need to switch the Hero 6 to the 20db gain option as the A.lav seems sensitive enough in the standard powered mode.
While the A.lav may not be the last word in Lavalier microphones, it’s a bargain of a microphone and well suited to the Hero 6. It should also sound and respond the same with the Hero 5 Black or any other GoPro that uses the external GoPro Pro 3.5mm Mic Adapter.
It’s also worth bearing in mind that the GoPro in its interleaved recording mode, applies a lot of dynamic and data processing to the incoming audio signal. Due to all this processing, it’s arguable as to how much better a high end lav would sound as compared to the A.lav. In any event, you can also tweak the audio sound in post if desired, although, and as with all my audio tests, the recorded audio has not been touched in post during the edit.
