Gradius V - Normal, Type 1 (Loop 1, 1CC)
I feel like if I have Spread Bomb now I could eat Normal for breakfast. I think ultimately Weapon Edit is a way to even the playing field of what comes after Loop 1.
Something I really think isn't going to be spoken about is how completely messed up anything involving physics is in this game. Hazards like goop, asteroids, and BOUNCING LASERS all have methods you use to navigate them, but sometimes the game does really degenerate things with those hazards that completely defy all reason other than to kill you.
I think a good example of this is 7-3 with the bounding lasers. If you're using a standard shot type and aren't using Spread Bomb, sitting in front of the ship is supposed to be how you deal with the lasers, but the game can decide that 3 lasers should bound in front of you, no matter where you are at the front of the High Speed Core.
Gradius V's difficulty is really underhanded in some subtle ways. Upping your firepower helps mitigate this, and I did have some breakthroughs in understanding what I could do in stage 6 against the green goop, but now that I've played this game I'm glad it's not just some anomaly that I have to sort of give weird props to as a game without understanding the challenge involved.
I didn't believe it would be possible to 1CC with default shot types at one point, so I'm glad to have come this far with a lot of focus and practice.
