Grandma's Cookbook- Coffee Layer Cake with Moca Icing
Recipe as written:
1/2 c. Shortening
1 c. Sugar
2 eggs
2 c. Sifted Flour
2 1/2 t. Baking Powder
3 T. Instant Coffee
1/2 T. Salt
2/3 c. Milk
Cream shortening and sugar together, stir in slightly beaten egg and vanilla. Sift together flour, baking powder, coffee and salt. Add to egg mixture alternatively with milk. Pour batter into 2 greased 9 in layer pans and bake in mod oven 375 deg for 25-30 min. Cool. Frost with moca icing.
3 T. butter or marg
3 T. cocoa
1 T. ins coffee
3 T. heavy cream
1 t. vanilla
1/3 c. chopped walnuts
2 c. sifted powdered sugar
Cream butter until soft, stir in coca and coffee and blend well. Add sugar and cream alternatively. Stir in vanilla and mix, sprinkle nuts on top of frosted cake.
