Since the discovery in 2019 of the neolithic Jingtoushan site in the eastern Chinese city of Yuyao, Zhejiang Province, archaeologists have been uncovering the secrets of seaside communities that inhabited the area some 8,000 years ago. In addition to surviving on fishing, hunting, and foraging, evidence suggests they practiced early farming techniques, including rice cultivation.
