After this checkpoint is where the game starts to get extreme in difficulty.

Due to the nature of the difficulty, there will be videos that only show a single checkpoint. Since this game is a work in progress (spread out among many games in progress) and not completed in one sitting, videos will vary in length.

Having completed the NES version of Gun.Smoke, I can say this game fuckin annihilates that version in difficulty. Much more agressive, faster , no slowdown and the screen is constantly filled with enemies and bullets. Even bosses have shitloads of enemies to deal with along with them. Checkpoints can be long for how dense they are as well. As I play farther in this will be more apparent.

I just started alternating between the Saturn 6 button pad and Hori RAV 4 joystick on and off. Gives the fingers a break from mashing on the saturn controller buttons to fire, since I have turbo set on the stick. Also experimenting with what controller works better for progressing. I will look into a turbo version of MAME at some point, so I can map turbo on some of the saturn buttons too.

Many arcade versions of games that were ported to other consoles, like the NES are extreme in difficulty. Karnov for NES is a very moderate game to beat on NES, but in the arcade its insane. I played through that game and it often does not even make fuckin sense on how you are supposed to proceed. It also is designed very much with keeping your power ups and never dying. Starting at the checkpoints with no power ups it feels like the game wasnt even tested. These games will be interesting to beat more of, and showcase in the Brutal Games Series. Legend Of Hero Tonma is another game that I beat the home version of (Turbo Grafx 16) and the arcade. The arcade version is INSANE at parts, especially without power ups but not as consistantly brutal as Karnov. It has some INSANE parts though that may even be harder than the hardest parts in Karnov. One level especially. It makes sense since these machines were primarily designed to take your money and had the horsepower to fill the screen with bullets and enemies.

This is also set on the "Normal" difficulty dip switch. For some games maybe I will revisit them and beat the hardest dip switch setting, but for now this will be enough of a bitch to beat.

Deaths are normally edited out for this playthrough but for single checkpoint videos theres no point in removing the death. When showing multiple checkpoints or levels in a video it keeps things moving much smoother. Otherwise you would be watching me die for hours on later parts of the game, on ONE checkpoint. From this point on I assume it will be painstaking progress and inching my way through the rest of the game. Though I only got to the ninja boss of this level before in the past, so time will tell.

Stay tuned !!
