Gwyn, Lord of Cinder S26 Pt2 Let's Play Dark Souls No Shield
1Gwyn, Lord of Cinder is the final boss of Dark Souls and he can be very challenging even for veterans. Gwyn's very aggressive, hits like a truck, very fast, and as if that wasn't enough his attacks have a fire element that goes through most shields effortlessly.
Preparation is key to making Gwyn easier to kill, if you want to use a shield, any fire resistant shield will make you a lot more survivable. Green blossoms are also a lifesaver here since your stamina will be constantly under duress while dodging or blocking his onslaught.
Some of his attacks are VERY quick and hard to anticipate. Good rule to live by is, if Gwyn is close and he's not grabbing at you, be prepared to roll backwards. It'll take a lot longer but unless he uses the straight poking attack, you won't get hit. If he does, well oops. Shoulda dodged sideways. :P He doesn't poke straight ahead ALL that often compared to his regular slashes though.
He also has a jumping charge attack that is scary as all get out since it hits so hard but it's a phenomenal time to score a counter hit if you learn to dodge it. It's parryable but tricky to land in my experiences, it's usually better to dodge or block it for safety's sake.
If Gwyn does attempt to grab you, dodging BACK is much better than side to side. As you saw, he can still grab you if you dodge left or right if you timed it the slightest bit wrong. This does moderate damage but the biggest loss is you miss a great opportunity to land a hit, which in this fight is crucial since he doesn't have all that much health.
Above all else, you're going to die learning this boss. Probably many times, I died probably 10 times my first time fighting Gwyn so try not to tilt, it'll just cause you to make more mistakes exacerbating the problem tenfold.
