The Abyss S25 Pt1 Let's Play Dark Souls No Shield
1The abyss is home to arguably the hardest boss in Dark Souls but thankfully if you're attentive it's not actually a hard area. If you stumble along without exploring like I normally do, then you'll have some real fun getting back after dying to Manus (and you more than likely WILL die at least once.)
The trick to making it easier on yourself is unlocking the shortcut back by Artorias and Kalameet, by dropping down a ledge and "meeting" Alvina. If you don't unlock it, you get to run by about 20 humanity enemies, and a dark magi casting non stop. Sneaking up on the magi is a much more effective method though.
Saving Sif does indeed grant you the ability to summon him IN the fight with Manus but it's really only get for a distraction. Sif doesn't hit all that hard but does live a fairly long time. If you're having trouble, it's hit and miss. Never go for a swing when Manus winds up for his big combo even if he's facing Sif. He's perfectly able to turn around mid combo and hit YOU.
Beyond all that, there are a few more secrets here than I explored mainly because I think they're spells that I have no need of. All in all, a fun area.
