Handheld Fighting Games of 95/99 - Mortal Kombat 4
Mortal Kombat 4 was released for the Game Boy Color in December 1999, developed by Digital Eclipse Software, Inc. and published by Midway Home Entertainment, Inc. This handheld version adapts the original arcade and console game but with several limitations due to hardware constraints.
The game follows the story of Raiden, who gathers warriors to stop the revived Shinnok from conquering the universe. Gameplay remains a traditional one-on-one fighting format, where players use punches, kicks, and special moves to deplete their opponent's health bar.
The Game Boy Color version features a roster of nine fighters—Raiden, Liu Kang, Scorpion, Reiko, Tanya, Fujin, Sub-Zero, Quan Chi, and the unlockable Reptile—fewer than its console counterparts. It also lacks the 3D graphics of other versions, instead using an engine from its predecessor. Other limitations for the Game Boy Color version include short FMV's that replace in the game fatalities, removal of blood effects outside of the FMV's as well as removal of the combo and weapons systems. #gaming #videogames #fightinggames
