Hans Fuller Plays Mindwave Demo (No Commentary)
I think I saw a video on YouTube about this game a few weeks ago, and I thought it looked really cute, but didn't play it. WarioWare's like one of my favorite game series, so I'm glad people are making games in that style still. Then I actually watched a video showing the endless mode, and I couldn't believe how cute it looked, so I had to play the demo immediately.
I'm like a WarioWare expert, at least I think of myself as one cause I played all of them, and wow, THIS IS HOW YOU MAKE A MICROGAME GAME. This game is already amazing based solely on the demo. Things I like about it:
1. The cutscenes, audio, and presentation feel kind of similar to Mega Microgame$! in some aspects, which had a super unique style alongside Twisted that kind of disappeared over time.
2. This game has its own really unique style. I don't really know what to call it, but the way Pandora and uh what was his name? The friend. The way they dress is distinct. And the like kinda cyberpunk stuff with the mindscape. I like it.
3. The pacing, this is actually the best thing about this game. The most important thing in a Microgame game, besides having good microgames, is having good pace. This game has really good transitions between the games, great and really stylish animation, and the music is all great. My controversial opinion is that the boss stages in WarioWare can ruin certain stages. Get it Together is a really good game, but man, some of those boss stages are way too long for endless mode. Thankfully, this game has the All Mixed Up equivalent. I got 69 on my first try, that wasn't supposed to be funny it was an accident, but I think the fact I got such a high score shows that the games are well designed. As in, you can immediately tell what to do.
4. I wanna see where this plot goes. Why does Pandora need to win this competition? What will the other levels be like? I think cause this is an indie game, it has the potential to be more emotional, if that's the word. Also, I can't think of any Microgame games that try to have plot.
5. Oh yeah, the Starlight stage also had the song playing in the back, which is like the old WarioWare games since they stopped doing that as frequently in later entries.
6. ENDLESS MODE IS WARIO INTERUPTS. Wario interrupts is probably my favorite sidemode in any WarioWare game cause of how high of a score you can get (Like over 100 is easy). I like playing lots of games, and I like seeing the screen flip and do stuff to distract you. The endless mode here looks like it'll have stuff like that, and I hope they add more to it.
7. It's also really long already? Like, there's like 30ish microgames? That's a lot for a demo, and there'll all good? And have different, unique art styles? I'm saying it now, if the full game is as good as this demo, this will be the best Microgame game probably. Well, we'll see if it beats Twisted.
8. I really like how you swap controls. My favorite thing about Get it Together is how each character is different. It adds to the franticness of the microgames. I like that aspect of Gold, Smooth Moves, and Move It too. Okay, rant time. I really don't like the game Spookware. It did something similar to this where you have keys and mouse microgames, but Spookware is like, 20% microgames, 80% bad Paper Mario game. I haven't played it since like 2020, but I just remember being really disappointed with it. The pacing in that game was really mediocre, and the microgames were really hit or miss, and I didn't like the art style, and I didn't like the structure, and I also found a lot of glitches when I played, but also, the game was probably made by like one guy, so I shouldn't be so harsh.
9. I like this game a lot though, I'm looking forward to the full release.
In summary, this game is really good, and I'm gonna go give money to the Kickstarter.
