In Episode 16 of her Hardspace Shipbreaker solo series, Scottish Bex is having one of those shifts — the kind where nothing seems to go right. Now at Cutting Rank 16, she should be seasoned, calm, and ready for anything. But sometimes, even the most experienced cutter has a bad day on the yard.

Her assignment? A brand new ship class — the Gekko Stargazer Research vessel known as The IO, last owned by Interlink Systemics, and worth a whopping $33.7 million. It's high value, but it comes with high risk, including the ever-present threat of radiation as part of its Hazard Level 8 classification.

From the very beginning, The IO proves to be a thorn in Bex’s side. Wrong door opens, decompression. Wrong panel removed, equipment misplaced. Valuable parts accidentally tossed into the wrong bays. Nothing is going to plan. And the ship? It’s not making things easy either. The new layout of the Stargazer class is complex, confusing, and incredibly unforgiving.

But despite the frustration, despite the setbacks, Bex keeps going. No fatal errors. No clone bay needed. Just stubbornness, a lot of muttered swearing, and a refusal to give up. Piece by piece, she pulls The IO apart and wrestles victory from the jaws of chaos.

It’s not clean. It’s not elegant. But it’s done. And if there’s one lesson in today’s shift, it’s this: keep pushing — even on the bad days.

End music: Acoustic Breeze by Benjamin Tisso
