Usually I do some sort of recap video on the Ashes of Creation Livestream. While I was on my 10 week break I heard Steven, the Creative Director on Ashes of Creation, say something important. It was that what you see reflects the current development stage. I thought that was a powerful statement and it is one we have to remember. On Friday Steven dropped some information on us about the changes and designs they are doing with Action Combat. To be 100% honest this gives me more than just a pause for concern, I see this as a really big red flag.

Intrepid is talking about changing from a either or system where an ability is either action or tab, and moving to a total hybrid system where all the abilities can be used as either. This would have been a great design decision to make in 2017 or 2018, but this is late 2021. This sort of change to the combat system is going to add a lot of development time to the process. Ashes of Creation may be looking at a 2024 or 2025 release date now.
