So anyone who has been on one of my Ashes 101 shows knows that we talk about combat often. What Intrepid Studios is trying to do with Ashes of Creation is nothing short of revolutionary. Jeffrey Bard, the former Lead Game Designer, used to say what they were doing was on the bleeding edge. The problem is, some things aren’t ready to be revolutionized yet, and the idea of Hybrid Combat may be one of them. There are fundamental incompatibilities when it comes to Action Combat and Tab Combat. Trying to put them both into a single game is going to create a Hybrid, but as Vicktor said in Underworld, a hybrid is an abomination. Just because people want Action and Tab in one game doesn’t mean it's a good idea.

In this video I talk about just some of the most basic, most fundamental incompatibilities so that people can understand what’s going on with Intrepid Studios moving backwards into doing Combat Design and Prototyping work. I know people don’t like the Chalkboard, but without anything to show it's better to show the classroom than a bunch of irrelevant footage.
