I enjoy following instructions, rules, and task lists when I am gaming. When I am thrown into open world games and instructed to just get on with it, I feel a little bewildered because I prefer to follow structures. I suppose the explanation is that we occasionally need a little bit of order in our game world because real life is so unpredictable and chaotic. With its open world areas and requirement that you really follow a set of blueprints, Hazel Sky actually combines elements of both. You are being evaluated as an engineer. You will succeed or fail.

We may be accustomed to seeing lengthy credits rolls after our games, with lists longer than those in a Marvel film, but Hazel Sky was created by a tiny Brazilian studio, one that is probably smaller than the Call of Duty catering staff. But what they were able to create—a fascinating new game—is extremely original. It might occasionally have some rough edges, but we are great supporters of fresh art that takes chances and experiments with novel concepts. Definitely accomplishes that.
