Join me for my non-scheduled, semi-scripted analysis of five ways that Hearts of Iron 4 could be better!

The TL:DW version:
---------------------------------------
5: Better control of armies: Too much feels 'slippery' and like 'trial and error,' there aren't any solid audio confirmations/objections when issuing commands (just 'click' sounds with the occasional klaxon), and even the army designer doesn't broadcast what the most vital strategic approaches are.

4: Clarify research trees - Either don't base everything on years, or base everything on a consistent tier of years. Also, for Christ's sake, why have the naval technology improve horizontally while the plane technology improves via descent into the tree? Different directions are inherently confusing.

3: Improve trade. Overall this requires an overhaul of the system, whereby you would store up each day's (ideally hour's, but that's unlikely) surplus so that you could have spare in case you ran out. This would prevent the always-annoying resource warnings as well as create a more realistic trade scenario.

2: Separate peace agreements/diplomatic overhauls: Basically, allow countries to 'leave' a war with a 'permanent' peace treaty from a faction at a separate peace conference. I don't mention it in the video, but think about how Russia left WW1. Not gracefully, not for Russia's long-term good, but it still got a separate peace. Also, make liberation/occupation clearer.

1: Expansion pack methodologies, because we all know X-Paks are comings! Condense technology/national focus trees into "eras" that can be "cleared" once you've completed all appropriate technologies. Give medium-sized countries like Turkey, Mexico and Brazil unique national focus trees. You could go back-in-time to World War One with a "Great War Era" tech/focus pack, and you can go forward with an "Early Cold War" or even "Space Age" era of technology/focuses.
