But here I am, standing on the edge of OSHAUNE—a Hive World deep in the mutative dark—watching spore clouds eat Destroyer hulls like acid on bone. They slapped some “Gloom-resistant polymer coating” on our ships and called it victory. That’s like duct-taping a coffee can to your chest and calling it power armor. We’re not ready. We’re never ready. Operation Righteous Reclamation, they call it. Sounds fancy. Sounds like triumph. But it’s just the brass’ way of telling us we’re about to get mulched. Outpost Alpha is barely holding together and they want us to defend it while we go poking around OSHAUNE collecting bug slime and plant goo “for research.” Research? Buddy, the only research I’m conducting is how many magazines it takes to make a Predator strain stop twitching. Spoiler: it’s more than I’ve got. We’re all going to die out here. The Gloom isn’t just a battlefield—it’s a maw, and it wants us inside. But here’s the kicker: if we’re doomed anyway, then I’m dragging every last bug bastard, every Automaton scrapheap, and every Illuminate glowstick down with me. That’s the oath of a Helldiver. That’s the joke of this whole damned war. So lock and load, citizens. Hellmire, OSHAUNE, Mirin—it’s all the same grave. We’re already buried. Might as well make the worms choke on Democracy while we’re down here.
