'Hello World' Homebrew for the Action Max console
Just some playing around. It's a very basic Action Max 'Hello World' demo. It's tested working on a real console--not that Action Max systems ever work terribly well to start with.
Action Max was an interesting little system by Worlds of Wonder, makers of Lazer Tag and Teddy Ruxpin. The games originally came on VHS, and the system itself really has no idea which game you're playing. All it knows is if you've scored a 'good' hit, a 'bad' hit, or a miss. It keeps score, and produces a few sound effects.
All of the games for the system were gun games, but I see the potential for so much more. With DVD technology, branching paths and interactive adventures seem more doable. How about 3d? There's no reason it wouldn't work. My next project (assuming I can force myself to continue to care) will probably be a short quiz game.
Who knows, maybe this demo will kick off a world of youtuber homebrew for this hunk of junk. All it takes is some video editing software and the desire to build a game for one of the worst game systems ever.
